2nd Grade Subtraction with Regrouping Worksheet

If your child gets stuck on "borrowing," try calling it trading. You cannot take 8 ones from 2 ones, so you trade 1 ten for 10 ones. This worksheet shows the trade with base-ten pictures, then gives 15 practice problems and an acorn word problem.

Questions parents ask

Is regrouping the same as borrowing?

Yes. Schools now say regrouping or trading because nothing gets given back. The ten is traded for 10 ones.

What if my child is not ready?

Start with the model at the top and real objects. Most kids get it after 3 or 4 hands-on trades.
