Wonder Explorer — Free Outdoor Learning App | The Homeschool Safari
What it is

Three simple parts. Endless wonder.

A pocket-sized adventure companion that gets kids off the couch and noticing the world. No reading required for the youngest explorers — just curiosity.

🎯

Missions

50+ short outdoor missions sorted by category and difficulty. “Find 3 leaves of different shapes.” “Count the colors of flowers you can spot.” Quick, doable, and naturally curious.

📖

Journal

Kids log what they discover with notes, photos, or drawings. Builds writing, observation, and reflection — without it feeling like a worksheet.

🏅

Stickers

Earn badges for completed missions, streaks, and category mastery. The motivation that gets a six-year-old to do “one more” without complaint.

Who it’s for

Built for homeschool families (but anyone can play)

  • Homeschool families who want screen-light, off-the-couch learning
  • Kids ages 5–12 — works for both readers and pre-readers
  • Parents looking for “do this for 15 minutes” outdoor prompts
  • Teachers and microschool leaders running outdoor learning sessions
  • Spanish-language households — full Spanish mode included
“We made Wonder Explorer because our own kids needed something gentle that pulled them off screens and into the world — not another app demanding their attention, but a quiet companion for the kind of slow noticing that builds real curiosity.” — Khara & Kristy, founders
Common Questions

Before you head outside

Is it really free?
Yes — 100% free, made as a gift to the homeschool community. No ads, no in-app purchases, no premium tier. We built it because our own kids needed it. If you love it, the best way to thank us is to share it with a homeschool friend.
Do I need to download an app?
No download. Wonder Explorer is a web app — open it in any browser (Safari, Chrome, etc.) on phone, tablet, or laptop. You can save it to your home screen if you want it to feel like an installed app.
What ages does it work for?
Designed for K–6 (roughly ages 5–12). The youngest explorers can do missions with a parent reading the prompts. Older kids work independently and use the journal to write their own observations.
Does my child need to type or read?
No. Missions are short and visual, and the journal accepts photos or drawings — not just text. It’s deliberately designed to work for pre-readers with a parent’s help.
Will the journal entries be saved?
Yes — entries are saved to your device so kids can build up a real record of their discoveries over time. Each child can have their own profile.
Is there a Spanish version?
Yes — toggle to Spanish in the app and all missions, journal prompts, and stickers appear in Spanish. Built for bilingual and Spanish-language homeschool families.
How is this different from your other classes?
Wonder Explorer is a free outdoor companion tool — a gift from us to the homeschool community. Our live classes and community memberships are how we support families with structured K–6 academics, language instruction, and parent coaching.

Step outside. Notice things.

Wonder Explorer is free, browser-based, and ready to go. Open it on any device and start your first mission today.
